Who is our customer?
The client is VC4A B.V., a Netherlands-based ecosystem builder and platform that supports entrepreneurs, investors, and ecosystem partners across Africa. VC4A is the co-creator and long-standing co-host of the Africa Early-Stage Investment Summit (AESIS).
What is our funding objective?
FMO is funding this project because it addresses systemic barriers that limit the effectiveness of Africa’s early-stage investment ecosystem, including fragmented investor networks, weak coordination between capital providers, limited transparency on exits and liquidity, and insufficient ecosystem learning. Through AESIS, the project aims to strengthen market practices, improve investor coordination, and support greater mobilization of private capital to early-stage businesses. FMO’s support enables a multi-year, institution-building approach that would be difficult to finance through commercial sponsorship alone.
Why do we fund this investment?
The project objective is to strengthen AESIS as a leading coordination and learning platform for Africa’s early-stage investment ecosystem. Through convenings, knowledge sharing, and investor engagement, the project seeks to improve coordination across the capital stack, strengthen the institutional quality of investors and intermediaries, support capital mobilization, and enhance the long-term resilience and investability of Africa’s early-stage markets.
