Who is our customer?

Nile Fresh Pty Ltd. (“Nile”, the “Company”) is a South-African B2B e-commerce platform linking commercial farmers to buyers of fresh produce and input suppliers. The Company delivers a convenient, secure, and transparent trading experience in a largely analogue market with significant inefficiencies and wastage. Farmers can list their available fruit and vegetables online, enabling institutional 'ShopRites' (e.g., retail chains, wholesalers) to place orders instantly.

What is our funding objective?

The funding from FMO (committed EUR 22,882.50) aims to support Nile Fresh (Pty) Ltd in implementing Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central ERP, integrated with warehouse management, financing, and export modules. This upgrade will address operational inefficiencies, enable real-time financial insights, and support the company’s expansion into agri-financing and sea freight exports. The project will also deploy a business intelligence platform to improve data-driven decision-making. By enhancing inventory traceability, reducing food waste, and automating financial processes, the initiative strengthens Nile’s capacity to scale sustainably while fostering internal knowledge transfer and broader sectoral learning.

Why do we fund this investment?

FMO funds this project to deepen its strategic partnership with Nile Fresh, a high-impact investee committed to transforming Africa’s agricultural trade. By supporting this ERP implementation, FMO helps safeguard its investment and ensures Nile has the operational infrastructure to scale responsibly. The project enhances financial transparency, audit readiness, and internal capacity—key to long-term sustainability. FMO’s involvement also reinforces its role as a value-adding partner rather than just a financier. As a complementary benefit, the project is expected to contribute to broader sectoral efficiency and knowledge-sharing in agri-tech and supply chain digitization.

What is the Environmental and Social categorization rationale?

This investment in Nile Fresh Pty Ltd is classified as Environmental and Social (E&S) risk category B, indicating that Nile Fresh may have limited E&S risks, which are typically site-specific and manageable with appropriate mitigation measures. Three areas were flagged as carrying significant E&S risks. In Logistics Management, potential risks are identified in the handling and transportation of agricultural products. In the Supplier Network, there could be a lack of clarity on supplier practices and compliance.. Lastly, Agrochemical Distribution plans to expand into technical inputs, like pesticides, could raise concerns, especially regarding compliance with IFC Performance Standards.
