Who is our customer

Amret is a mature and professional deposit-taking microfinance institution in Cambodia. It provides group and individual loans to the poor in rural areas, and is mostly active in the agriculture sector. Amret is a strong long-standing client of FMO with sound financial performance and high quality management.

What is our funding objective?

A long-term FMO-A syndicated senior loan will support Amret's growth plan to reach out to the MSME sector. With the syndicated nature of the loan, Amret is introduced to new parties and countries, which will benefit the long-term funding strategy of Amret.

Why do we fund this investment?

FMO considers this transaction to be an inclusive transaction because it provides financial services to the lower segment of the population in a low-income country. This long-term loan will support Amret's expansion in the MSME sector.

What is the Environmental and Social categorization rationale?

Amret is classified as an FI-C-client with minimal or no adverse Environmental and Social (E&S) impacts. The following E&S requirements are applicable: (i) Exclusion List, (ii) compliance with local laws and regulations and (iii) application of the IFC Performance Standard 2, Labour and Working Conditions. Amret is SMART Campaign certified, adhering to the Client Protection Principles.
