Who is our prospective customer?
CapitalWorks Private Equity Fund IV LP (the “Fund”) is a South Africa focused, mid-market PE fund managed by CapitalWorks (the “Manager”). The Fund is targeting a total commitment size of USD 350 mln. FMO intends to commit to the Fund at a subsequent close in Q4 2026.
What is our funding objective?
The Fund seeks to continue the strategy of its predecessor funds, investing in companies in South Africa’s mid-market. The objective of FMO’s commitment is to foster private-sector-led growth and job creation across South Africa, by making risk capital and strong social, environmental, and corporate governance practices available to a more underserved market segment.
Why do we want to fund this investment?
As a prospective investor in the Fund, FMO supports the fundraising of a capital pool that is intended to enhance the availability of equity capital for middle-sized companies in South Africa. By participating, FMO sends a positive signal to other potential limited partners. In doing so, FMO plays a catalyzing role in helping the Fund attract additional investors, including commercial capital, and achieve its target size and objectives.
What is the Environmental and Social categorization rationale?
The Fund is categorized as E&S Category B in accordance with FMO’s Sustainability Policy. Based on its strategy and pipeline, the Fund may be exposed to E&S risks across IFC Performance Standards (“PS”) 1-4, PS5 (limited), and to contextual risks. Exposure to PS6-PS8 risks is unlikely. The Manager has established E&S processes and systems based on IFC PS requirements which are well-integrated in their investment management process. FMO will further support the Fund in strengthening existing systems and capabilities to maintain best practices, manage contextual risks and identify opportunities for value creation.
