Who is our customer?
United Exports Limited is an international precision agriculture company, founded in 2004. It is South Africa's largest vertically integrated blueberry company and operates a fully integrated business model including (proprietary) genetics, farming, packing, and marketing. The company is specialised in licensing and sub-licensing leading fruit genetics and possesses the exclusive right to sub-license and market the premium OZblu® blueberry brand.
What is our funding objective?
The project, co-financed through an FMO Development Contribution Grant, aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and waste across United Exports’ supply chain by establishing science-based climate targets and implementing data-driven solutions to prevent waste. Funding supports the establishment of a comprehensive corporate carbon footprint (Scopes 1–3) and the development of science-based emissions reduction targets in line with SBTi requirements, alongside the scaling of waste-reduction and precision agriculture technologies to improve efficiency and reduce orchard and post-harvest waste.
Why do we fund this investment?
The project supports the objectives of FMO’s Strategy 2030, in particular its focus on climate action and ESG transformation. Moreover, it contributes to the adoption of internationally recognised climate standards and practical measures to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and food waste in the agricultural sector. By supporting the use of science-based climate targets and improved data and technology, the project contributes to Paris alignment and SDG 13 (Climate Action). It also supports the integration of environmental considerations into business operations and supply chains, in line with responsible business practices.
