Who is our prospective customer?
InPrime Finserv (STK Credit Private Limited) is a technology-enabled Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC) operating in India. The company commenced its business operations in 2023 and focuses on serving the "Informal Prime" segment—India's emerging middle class comprising creditworthy individuals in the informal economy. InPrime primarily provides loans to individuals in India's emerging middle class, including those engaged in micro-, small-, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), agriculture, livestock and other income-generating activities. Leveraging technology-enabled underwriting, data-driven credit assessment, and a field-assisted distribution model, the company delivers responsible and accessible credit to borrowers across six states in North and South India.
What is our funding objective?
FMO’s investment is intended to support InPrime’s growth and help expand access to finance for borrowers in India’s emerging middle class and informal economy who are underserved by traditional lenders despite demonstrating creditworthiness and financial resilience. The capital is expected to enable InPrime to increase loan disbursements, diversify its product offering and expand its geographic presence across India.
Why do we want to fund this investment?
The investment aligns with FMO’s objective to promote financial inclusion for underserved individuals and businesses. InPrime's lending activities focus exclusively on serving the informal prime segment, the emerging middle class whose livelihoods include MSME, agriculture, and allied activities. FMO's investment aims to support activities that contribute to inclusive growth through the formalization of lending and improved access to finance for emerging middle-class borrowers in India, contributing to SDG 10.
What is the Environmental and Social categorization rationale?
The project has been categorized as E&S Category C in accordance with FMO’s Sustainability Policy, given InPrime’s focus on MSME and agricultural financing. Direct environmental and social (E&S) risks are expected to be limited and mainly relate to labor conditions and occupational health and safety. Indirect risks may arise from the environmental and social impacts of the underlying MSME clients financed by InPrime. The company follows responsible lending practices that prohibit financing of certain high E&S risk activities and maintains policies and procedures designed to support responsible lending practices, including transparency towards borrowers and safeguards against over-indebtedness.
