Who is our prospective customer?
Agri Exim Global Philippines Inc. (“Agi Exim”) is a producer of certified-organic coconut products based in the Philippines. The company, established in 2014, is part of the Suminter India Organics Group and sources coconuts from more than 6,000 smallholder farmers. Its products are sold in international food and beverage markets.
What is our funding objective?
FMO is considering a USD 20 million financing package, comprising a USD 10 million committed long-term capex facility and a USD 10 million uncommitted working capital facility. The financing will support the expansion of Agri Exim Philippines' coconut processing operations, including the installation of additional coconut processing and filling lines, construction of a biochar facility and development of a solar power installation. The funding will also support working capital requirements related to the company's growing coconut sourcing operations. The investment is expected to strengthen market access and create income opportunities for thousands of smallholder farmers participating in the company's supply chain.
Why do we want to fund this investment?
FMO's financing will help Agri Exim expand its sustainable coconut value chain following a long-term offtake agreement with Vita Coco, a leading coconut water brand. The transaction addresses a financing gap by providing long-term funding for expansion and working capital needs. The investment is expected to support job creation, expand the company's network of smallholder farmers, and promote climate-smart agricultural practices. The transaction is potentially eligible for both the FMO Green Label and Reducing Inequalities Label, subject to final confirmation of eligibility.
What is the Environmental and Social categorization rationale?
This concerns an Environmental and Social Category B+ investment. Key E&S risks relate to coconut sourcing and processing activities, including biodiversity and deforestation risks, labor and working conditions in the supply chain, resource efficiency, waste management, and greenhouse gas emissions. Climate-related risks are significant given the Philippines' exposure to typhoons, flooding and droughts. The investment is expected to trigger IFC Performance Standards PS1-PS4 and PS6, while the applicability of PS7 is being assessed during due diligence. Agri Exim has implemented risk-management measures including certification programs, supplier engagement, traceability systems and an Environmental and Social Management System. An Environmental and Social Action Plan will form part of the financing package.
