Who is our customer?
Our client is Acumen, the manager of Trellis. Trellis invests in scalable agribusinesses that improve the lives of smallholder farmers through market access and climate adaptation support.
What is our funding objective?
Trellis is an early-stage investment programme providing a mix of capital and support to climate resilient SMEs that have the potential to scale and unlock additional investments, including from Fls. Trellis aims to generate evidence and impact insights that validate scalable business models and attract commercial capital, while de-risking early-stage ventures to create investable opportunities for DFls and ultimately improve the livelihoods and climate resilience of 1 million people in agriculture.
Why do we fund this investment?
Trellis aligns with FMO's market creation strategy of making unbankable companies and projects bankable, by seeding, supporting and funding the companies that should reach FMO's direct and indirect portfolio in the next 3-7 years. In addition, Trellis focuses on gender inclusion and climate adaptation, which aligns with MMCP's mandate and objectives. In addition, FMO/MMCP's contribution to Trellis alongside more traditional funders signals the importance of commercial investors in the ecosystem and aims to catalyze additional investment in the sector.
