Who is our prospective customer?

TPEF V L.P. (the “Fund”) is a private equity fund investing in Türkiye, managed by Turkven (the “Fund Manager”). FMO has an existing relationship with Turkven, dating back to 2002, having invested in three of its predecessor funds. The Fund is targeting a total commitment size of USD 400 mln. FMO intends to commit to the Fund at first close.

What is our funding objective?

The Fund seeks to continue the strategy of its predecessor fund, investing in high-growth companies in Türkiye’s mid-market with focus on ‘digital growth’ and ‘hard-currency businesses.’ The objective of FMO’s commitment is to foster private-sector-led growth and job creation across Türkiye, by making risk capital and strong social, environmental and corporate governance practices available to a more underserved market segment.

Why do we want to fund this investment?

As a prospective investor in the Fund, FMO supports the fundraising of a capital pool that is intended to enhance the availability of equity capital for middle-sized companies in Türkiye. By participating at first closing, FMO will send a positive signal to other potential limited partners. In doing so, FMO will play a catalyzing role in helping the Fund attract additional investors - including commercial capital - and achieve its target size and objectives. The investment will qualify under FMO’s Reducing Inequalities label. FMO’s investment aims to support activities that contribute to Inclusive growth, contributing to SDG 10.

What is the Environmental and Social categorization rationale?

TPEF V L.P. is categorized as E&S Category B+ in accordance with FMO’s Sustainability Policy. Based on its strategy and pipeline, the Fund may be exposed to environmental and social (E&S) risks across IFC Performance Standards (PS) 1 to 4, as well as to contextual risks, with limited exposure to PS5. Exposure to risks related to PS6-PS8 is unlikely. Turkven has established E&S processes and systems based on IFC PS requirements which are well-integrated in their investment management process. FMO will further support the Fund in strengthening existing systems and capabilities to maintain best practices, manage contextual risks and identify opportunities for value creation.
