Who is our prospective customer?
Sunrise Foods International Tarim Urunleri Ticaret A.S. ("Sunrise Türkiye") is part of Sunrise Foods International Inc. (“Sunrise”), a global trader and processor of certified organic agri‑commodities. The group manages an integrated supply chain covering sourcing, processing, storage and international trade, supplying organic feed and food ingredients mainly to customers in North America and Europe. Sunrise is majority‑owned by Tiryaki Agro Gida San. Tic. A.S., a leading agribusiness group headquartered in Türkiye and an existing client of FMO since 2012.
What is our funding objective?
FMO’s proposed funding is a senior secured facility of up to USD 40 million to Sunrise Türkiye. The financing will support working capital needs and capital expenditures related to the maintenance and upgrading of Sunrise’s processing and port facilities in Çorum and Giresun, Türkiye.
Why do we want to fund this investment?
The investment will support a globally active organic agribusiness market leader that contributes to sustainable food systems through certified organic production and processing. The transaction is expected to contribute to economic activity and employment in rural regions of Türkiye and to promote environmentally sustainable agricultural practices through certified organic supply chains. In addition, this transaction is expected to have a 85% Green label.
What is the Environmental and Social categorization rationale?
Sunrise is categorized as B+ E&S risk due to inherent site-specific risks in the processing of agri-commodities and port operations related to IFC Performance Standards (PS) 1-4 and more specifically IFC PS6 for the supply chain (outside of site boundaries). These risks can generally be well mitigated through the established Environmental and Social (E&S) Management System, which is aligned with the IFC PSs and World Bank Environmental, Health, and Safety Guidelines, amongst others. FMO will monitor these requirements during the loan tenor.
