Who is our customer?
Early Dawn Microfinance Company Ltd. is a leading microfinance institution in Myanmar and an existing FMO client. Founded in 2002, and acquired in 2015 by a consortium including FMO, Accion, and Triodos, the company focuses on both group and individual lending to low-income microentrepreneurs in peri-urban and rural areas. It is among the top five MFIs in the country, with over USD 90 million in assets.
What is our funding objective?
FMO is providing the equivalent of EUR 10 million in local currency to support microloans for women with limited access to finance in (semi-)urban Myanmar. The FMO Reducing Inequality label applies.
Why do we fund this investment?
The loan is highly additional, given the currently restricted financing options available to Myanmar. It provides long-term, local currency funding to a client focused on serving financially underserved women, aligning with FMO’s inclusive finance goals.
What is the Environmental and Social categorization rationale?
As a microfinance institution offering small-scale loans, Early Dawn is classified as FI-C.
