Who is our customer?
The contracting party is Ameriabank CJSC. It is a major financial institution in Armenia, offering a comprehensive range of corporate, investment, and retail banking services. Established originally in 1910, and restructured as a commercial bank in 2007, it has grown to its current leading position in Armenia’s banking sector in terms of assets, loan portfolio, and profitability. Headquartered in Yerevan, it is the largest bank in Armenia and a strategic client of FMO since 2009. Ameriabank operates as a universal bank with a strong emphasis on digital innovation. What is our funding objective?
The funding objective is to refine and enhance Ameriabank's sustainability governance and management practices. The project aims to ensure the development and efficient execution of the bank’s sustainability strategy based on best practices and international standards. Through this Technical Assistance, the Bank will standardize the indicators and the way it gathers data to be more consistent and document and report its ESG impact, including the adoption of IFRS S1 and S2 standards.
Why do we fund this investment?
Investors, regulators, and customers are increasingly demanding transparency and accountability on sustainability matters. Effective sustainability governance and management practices are crucial for ensuring responsible financing, managing ESG risks, and adhering to increasing regulatory requirements. By embedding sustainability into core decision-making processes (such as governance and leadership, stakeholder engagement, reporting standardization, and the corporate strategy), Ameriabank can align its practices with international standards and achieve positive ESG-related outcomes. This project will not only enhance the sustainability of the bank but also contribute to its transparency by developing reporting tools and a disclosure protocol. Furthermore, the execution of this project will put the Bank in a better position to raise funds from Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) as it will help meet international sustainability standards.
