Who is our customer?

AMPIN Energy Transition (“AMPIN”) is a leading renewable energy company with a total portfolio of 5 GWp across 23 states in India. Headquartered in New Delhi, with regional offices in Mumbai, Bangalore, and Kolkata, the company is led by a team of seasoned industry professionals and backed by top-tier institutional investors from Europe and Asia. AMPIN provides renewable energy solutions to both Commercial & Industrial (C&I) and utility-scale customers, helping them reduce operating costs while accelerating their sustainability goals. With a balanced and diversified portfolio, the company plays a key role in India’s clean energy transition. AMPIN aims to scale its renewable energy capacity to 10 GWp by 2030, reinforcing its commitment to a greener future. In addition to its core renewable energy generation business, AMPIN’s energy transition initiatives also include strategic areas such as energy trading, solar cell and module manufacturing, green hydrogen, and energy storage.

What is our funding objective?

The financing consists of a USD 50 million (equivalent in INR) corporate facility. The use of proceeds of the loan will go to the development of greenfield renewable energy projects and the refinancing of existing financing attracted for the purpose of greenfield renewable energy projects.

Why do we fund this investment?

The financing will aim to support the expansion of the renewable energy portfolio of AMPIN. This closely aligns with the strategic objectives of FMO to increase its investment in climate mitigation measures and supports India’s target of achieving 500 GW non-fossil fuel capacity by 2030. The financing is labelled 100% Green.

What is the Environmental and Social categorization rationale?

The investment in Ampin Energy’s solar PV portfolio is classified as E&S risk category B+, meaning it faces moderate, site-specific risks that are manageable with proper mitigation. Key risks include potential biodiversity impacts from transmission lines and stakeholder engagement, and potential economic displacement of informal land users. The company’s ESMS is aligned with IFC Performance Standards, and most standards (PS1–6, PS8) are applicable. PS7 (Indigenous Peoples) and physical displacement under PS5 are not triggered, as projects avoid Indigenous lands and involuntary resettlement. Monitoring will focus on biodiversity, land acquisition, labor conditions, and grievance management, with regular reviews to ensure ongoing compliance. There is an Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) agreed between AMPIN and FMO to address the identified gaps, including additional baseline information on avifauna around the transmission lines and a clearer site selection process including E&S aspects to demonstrate avoidance and minimization of E&S risks and impacts.
