Who is our customer

Limbomar S.A. is one of the companies of Grupo Almar. Grupo Almar is an Ecuadorian group of companies focused on the production of white leg shrimp (penaeus vannamei) since 1981. Almar comprises Biogemar (larviculture), Produmar and Limbomar (shrimp production farms). Currently, they are planning to implement the LIMBOPACK Shrimp Packing Plant. Grupo Almar has realized important contributions to the Ecuadorian aquaculture sector.

What is our funding objective?

FMO’s ambition is to have an investment portfolio which is aligned with a 1.5? pathway. One way to support this ambition is to grow FMO’s ‘green’ portfolio, which is aimed among others at reducing greenhouse gas emissions, increasing resource efficiency, preserving and growing natural capital, and supporting climate adaptation. This particular project will support Limbomar’s Carbon footprint measurement and reduction.

Why do we fund this investment?

In order to support Grupo Almar’s vision for 2025 to be global leaders in sustainable aquaculture and improve their efficiency and quality standards.. As one of the largest shrimp producers in the world, Grupo Almar strives to ensure high quality and efficient shrimp production while improving the sustainability of its operations through innovation and R&D. By being the first to adopt this cutting-edge tool in the shrimp industry, they will introduce innovation and will be setting new standards in the industry. This initiative will position them as leaders and pioneers, marking a significant progress in how the carbon footprint is measured in the shrimp sector.
