Who is our customer

Metier Capital Growth Fund III (“the Fund”) is a private equity fund being raised Metier Capital (“Metier”), a leading PE firm headquartered in South Africa and Mauritius, and an existing relationship of FMO. MCGF3 is targeting to raise USD 200-250m in commitments and will make (quasi) equity investments in mid-cap businesses across Sub-Saharan Africa including South Africa.

What is our funding objective?

The aim is to bring much needed growth capital to companies in Africa, with underlying objective to foster economic and social development. The Fund will focus on growth capital investments in mid-cap businesses with high growth potential in selected niches, alongside reliable and trustworthy partners. Metier’s return outcomes extend beyond capital appreciation, including improved sustainability levels and social and development impacts that impact a wider stakeholder community.

Why do we fund this investment?

Metier has a very experienced, stable, and dedicated management team that is committed to building sustainable businesses and making meaningful improvements in Resource Efficiency and ESG standards. By supporting Metier, we collaborate with a partner to empower local entrepreneurs and promote local prosperity on the African continent.

What is the Environmental and Social categorization rationale?

This Fund will have the E&S risk category A as some of the investments in the currently presented pipeline are assessed as medium to high risk. IFC PS 1-4 will be mostly triggered, while IFC PS 5-8 could also be applicable. Metier continues to demonstrate a strong commitment to implementing high ESG standards in their investments. They have strengthened their in-house capability to do so and FMO will support the manager in further developing and implementing ESG best practices.
