Who is our customer

Kikagati Hydro is an existing FMO client, responsible for the construction and operation of a 14MW Hydropower project in Uganda.

What is our funding objective?

To fund a genetic study to understand the current situation of the genetic population structure and extent of the variations among the Labeo Victorianus populations in Lake Victoria and along the Kikagati hydropower operation area in the Kagera river system.

Why do we fund this investment?

Since 2015, the Labeo Victorianus species has been described as a critically endangered and is on the red list of IUCN. Present populations are reported to exist in the Kikagati hydropower operation area. The findings of the funded study will help the client enhance the species conservation strategies and assist them towards compliance with IFC PS6: The results will be available online, accessible by the public, and used as a benchmark to inform similar hydropower project designs and operations in the region.
