Who is our customer

EBL (founded in 1992) has established itself as a leading private commercial bank in the country, with corporate banking, consumer and SME Banking services. The customers are served through a network of 85 Branches, countrywide. EBL has its presence in the major cities/towns in the country, including Dhaka and Chittagong region. EBL has won the Best Bank in Bangladesh award in the Euromoney Awards for Excellence in 2016.

What is our funding objective?

FMOs long term finance is dedicated to support local SMEs and Green financing.

Why do we fund this investment?

There is a shortage of long-term financing in Bangladesh and this long-term loan will allow EBL to expand the SME financing business, to support export-oriented companies with funds, contributing to job creation in Bangladesh.

What is the Environmental and Social categorization rationale?

FI-A. The client is classified as FI-A due to exposure of 20% in potentially high-risk sectors (RMG and textile). EBL has a functioning ESMS in place and is working on an upgrade of its ESMS with long term support from FMO and DEG.
