Nijhuis Water Technologies B.V.

What is our funding objective?

To prove the business case that includes identifying potential off-takers to design criteria, technologies, costs to environmental and social impacts and regulatory requirements. During this phase the commitment of the Government is also checked and confirmed for next stages.

Why do we fund this investment?

Positive impact – The project aims to turn the Brahmaputra river into a real supportive life line for Assamese communities as well as the nature in and surrounding Brahmaputra. Dutch interest – The project is supported by the Government of Assam to be developed by a Dutch led consortia with Dutch best practices in river rehabilitation and management being a key emphasis.

What is the Environmental and Social categorization rationale?

In terms of E&S risk management, the project will be developed fully in line with FMO standards. Due to the nature of its activities this is an E&S category A project, with IFC PS 1-3 triggered, and most probably PS 4, 5 and 6. PS 7 and 8 are not expected to be triggered. Various WBG EHS Guidelines apply. The project is dedicated to develop a sound E&S management approach consistent with FMO’s standards.
