Who is our customer

Sucafina is one of the three largest coffee market actors in East Africa, sourcing both large volume low margin coffees through its mainstream business and premium coffees in smaller volumes but with higher margins. In both cases the majority of coffee purchased is from small and medium-sized farms.

What is our funding objective?

The project focusses on the development and implementation of an Environmental and Social action plan on the Sucafina holding level (company wide), the implementation of a farmer support programme and in-house knowledge & skills development.

Why do we fund this investment?

The project is highly relevant to FMO’s Agribusiness strategy and FMO’s sustainability ambitions. It touches both the green development agenda (in terms of mitigating environmental and social risks and improving in-house knowledge/skills around those risks) and the inclusive development agenda (in terms of supporting the development of a farmer support programme, which aims to improve the income, skillsets and livelihoods of farmers).
