The Operations Subject Matter Officer (OSMO) is a specialist role responsible for debt-specific content within the Operations Department. The OSMO has no HR or managerial responsibilities but supports the Manager on strategic content topics. These topics can shift in time depending on the need. In addition to overseeing a portfolio of financial products in the core banking system, the OSMO serves as an expert and leader in the operational domain. The OSMO monitors the external and internal developments, sets the vision for various topics, negotiates terms and conditions where needed, and actively supports colleagues to grow. They foster team development, improve quality of work, and maintain strong relationships inside and outside FMO. The OSMO is an ambassador for our values and behaviors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor internal and external developments.
  • Formulate a vision for the future of specific debt-related topics.
  • Act as subject matter expert for debt-related operational processes, ensuring effectiveness, compliance and efficiency.
  • Lead and coordinate as project owner at least two cross-departmental projects annually.
  • Negotiate operational terms and conditions with internal and external stakeholders, achieving consensus within agreed timelines.
  • Deliver quarterly training sessions to enhance team knowledge.
  • Participate in product development and approval as needed.
  • Drive continuous improvement and change initiatives across OPS and FMO.
  • Provide coaching and quality monitoring for peers.
  • Maintain strong relationships and deliver constructive compromises across teams.

Your team

The Operations Debt Team plays a critical role in FMO’s Operations department by managing the full lifecycle of debt, development contributions, and guarantee transactions, amongst others. This includes account management, servicing, and change management for complex financial products. The team ensures accurate booking of new deals in the core banking system (ACBS), processes disbursements and repayments, manages loan and facility invoicing, and handles restructurings and exits. Beyond daily operations, the team drives strategic projects such as new products analysis, digitilization, transaction monitoring automation, and compliance with evolving market standards . Collaboration is key: the Operations Debt Team works closely with Investment, Special Operations, Impact, Risk, Finance, and Legal teams, among others, to deliver seamless execution and maintain FMO’s reputation for operational excellence.

Your background

  • Minimum 10 years in operations or equivalent domain.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Proven leadership in operational excellence and project coordination.
  • Strong knowledge of debt products and operational workflows.
