Your role

As a Sustainable Finance Officer with a particular focus on green/climate finance and capital markets, you will report directly to the Manager of the Sustainable Finance Advisory team. You are expected to strengthen FMO's strategic agenda by providing content knowledge, building a network of contacts, and offering deal support in sustainable finance. You will contribute to building our portfolio of at least €10 billion in SDG 13 (climate action) investments and another €10 billion in SDG 10 (reduced inequalities) investments.

You will also:

  • Advise our investment teams and clients on sustainable finance with emphasis on green and climate related themes.
  • Advise on the structuring of innovative green and social capital market transactions incl but not limited to green, social, sustainability and sustainability linked bonds.
  • Advise the structuring of innovative green (e.g., climate mitigation, biodiversity, circular economy), with occasional support on social (e.g., inclusive business, gender, refugees) finance deals.
  •  Assessing transactions to ensure they meet FMO’s Green, and where applicable Inclusive finance criteria.
  •  Support deals, sector initiatives, and partnerships across the organization on green and social topics.
  •  Design and pilot financial and non-financial products to boost green/climate investments.
  •  Lead internal change projects and provide technical expertise.
  • Represent FMO at sustainable finance events and engage with key partners.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across departments and manage internal stakeholders.
  • Inspiring and collaborating with colleagues across several departments and managing internal stakeholders.

Our offer

  • Gross yearly salary of between EUR 70K – 90K (including holiday allowance and 13th month salary), depending on seniority, years of experience and background.

Your team

The Sustainable Finance Advisory team is part of the Impact department, alongside the Programmatic and Technical Assistance teams. We support four investment departments: Agriculture, Energy, Financial Institutions, and Private Equity. Our expertise spans SDG 10 (e.g., gender, digital inclusion, smallholder finance) and SDG 13 (e.g., climate finance, biodiversity, circular economy). Each team member brings unique sustainable finance knowledge.

Your background

  • Master’s degree in Development Economics, Business, Finance, Climate Finance, Sustainable Finance, or other comparable studies around sustainability.
  • Over 10 years of working experience, out of which at least 5 years in development finance and/or impact investing in emerging markets ideally with a DFI, MDB or impact fund or commercial bank.
  • Proven track record (5 years) in sourcing, structuring, designing, and executing development finance products and investments for financial institutions incl MFI’s, NBFI’s, commercial banks, debt funds ideally in a commercial role.
  • Proven track record in sourcing, structuring, designing, and executing innovative capital market transactions for financial institutions incl the development of bond frameworks and obtaining an SPO.
  • Proven experience on at least one of these topics: climate mitigation and adaptation finance, biodiversity finance or transition finance.
  • Ability to assess investments, apply sustainable finance definitions pragmatically and take clients and internal departments along in the rationale.
  • Working experience and exposure to at least one of our investment departments.
  • Excellent communication skills and fluent in English both written and verbally, an additional language is an advantage (Spanish or French).
