Your role
The Financial Institutions department seeks an enthusiastic and driven (Senior) Associate for the Africa team, which has 15 professionals.
As a (Senior) Associate you will play a key role in both portfolio management and transaction execution. This role allows you to develop into a skilled investment expert in an energetic and impact-oriented setting.
Your responsibilities cover the following areas:
Portfolio Monitoring
- Report Writing & Analysis: Collect data for credit reviews and monitoring reports. Analyze information for country updates, change requests, disbursement memos, and market outlooks.
- Performance Monitoring: In close collaboration with (Senior) Investment Officers, monitor client performance, assess financial and operational KPIs, and recommend covenant amendments.
- Client Support: Assist Investment Officers in addressing client inquiries and liaising with external stakeholders as needed.
- Market Research: Track macroeconomic trends and regional developments relevant to African financial markets.
- Administration: Ensure accurate and up-to-date data entry in financial systems and maintain full compliance documentation.
Transaction Execution
- Deal Team Member: Contribute to the full transaction lifecycle post-LOI through to disbursement, within designated countries or portfolios.
- Report Writing & Analysis: Support preparation of internal documentation such as clearance in principle memos and financial proposals.
- Due Diligence: Help in the execution of financial due diligence on prospective clients and investments.
- Legal Documentation: Work closely with Legal in the review and drafting of transaction agreements.
- External Advisors: Coordinate the selection and management of external advisors, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables.
Collaboration & Administration
- Partner effectively with multidisciplinary deal teams to execute both transaction and portfolio-related tasks.
- Contribute to departmental initiatives and process optimization.
- Ensure data integrity across FMO systems and help in regulatory and internal reporting.
Additional Responsibilities for (Senior) Associates
- Willingness to travel to countries in the African region.
- Mentor and support onboarding of junior colleagues.

Your team
The Financial Institutions department is organized across four regions: i) Africa; ii) Asia; iii) Eastern Europe, Central Asia, Middle East & North Africa; and iv) Latin America & the Caribbean.
This vacancy is for the Africa team, which manages a diversified portfolio of around 40 clients and approximately EUR 1.25 billion in exposure. The team has a solid presence in the region and builds strong partnerships to drive impact through debt financing, catalytic fund mobilization, technical assistance, and sector initiatives that contribute to Climate Action and Reducing Inequalities.
Your background
- Master’s degree in economics, Finance, Business administration, Engineering
- 4-7 years of relevant work experience, including a minimum of four years in financial or portfolio analysis.
- Exposure to international work environments and/or emerging markets.
- Knowledge of the financial institutions sector is essential; familiarity with African markets is a strong plus.
- Strong analytical skills with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
- Deep understanding of financial markets and macroeconomic developments.
- Demonstrated stakeholder management capabilities.

You are a proactive and adaptable professional who remains calm under pressure and manages multiple priorities with ease. You communicate clearly, build strong relationships, and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams. You are well-organized, detail-oriented, and not afraid to escalate issues when needed. You work independently, present with confidence, and are culturally sensitive. You have an excellent command of English, both spoken and written. A good command of French is a nice to have.
