As continuous improvements lead to falling costs for renewable energy, the International Renewable Energy Agency predicts that renewable energy will be cheaper than fossil fuels by 2020. Onshore wind and solar photovoltaic projects in particular have benefited from lower costs combined with greater efficiency and power. In developed countries, solar power even has become cheaper than new nuclear power.
