New forests for Africa

January 21, 2016

Reforestation and landscape restoration as means of combating climate change are now high on the agenda of many governments and organizations, especially in the wake of COP21 in Paris. Close cooperation between businesses and investors is needed to meet this challenge and to develop plantation forestry into a stable and sustainable business that will be beneficial to all involved.

As finance is a key enabler of reforestation, FMO became a partner of the Dutch initiative ‘Forests for the Future – New Forests for Africa’ which aims at large scale reforestation in Africa. This initiative is supported by Mr. Kofi Annan, Chair of the Kofi Annan Foundation.

The successful creation of new forests requires close, long-term commitment and cooperation between all parties. It is for this reason that a working conference will be held on March 16 and 17, 2016 in Accra, Ghana. It is time  to remove barriers and dramatically boost reforestation. Mr. Kofi Annan will be at the official launch of this initiaitive.
