news - FMO opens consultation on its investment approach to responsibly managed plantation forestry

FMO is launching a consultation to share its approach to investing in forestry plantations. We welcome stakeholder feedback to help refine our approach and strengthen our impact.

We have detailed our approach in a new document that outlines how we promote best ESG practices and responsible forest management. This document highlights how our investments align with FMO’s purpose and strategy, address key environmental and social (E&S) risks, and leverage our capabilities to invest responsibly in developing countries. It emphasizes the importance of supporting forestry plantations to protect natural forests, communities, and the planet, with a focus on financing highly productive plantations in the Global South.

• January 31, 2025 - Deadline for Feedback
  All interested parties are invited to submit their written comments and insights to help strengthen our approach. Please send your feedback to disclosure@fmo.nl.
• February 14, 2025 - Written response by FMO: 
  We will respond in writing in one comprehensive response to all of the written comments and insights of the stakeholders who submitted a response.
• First week of March 2025 - Round Table Discussion
  Following the feedback period, we will organize a round table to discuss the approach and any remaining questions or comments. This will provide an opportunity for further dialogue and collaboration among stakeholders.
