Through the Access to Energy Fund, FMO will finance 50% of a renewable energy feasibility study in Sierra Leone

June 9, 2016

On 9 June, FMO signed a USD 200.000 convertible grant from the Access to Energy Fund (AEF) to Riverblade Sierra Leone.

FMO manages the AEF on behalf of the Dutch government. Riverblade was founded by two Dutch individuals with the purpose of developing small river-based hydro stations throughout Sierra Leone. They aim to start with a pilot project, consisting of 2x3MW of renewable energy. FMO - through AEF - will finance 50% of the feasibility study.

The Project has a perfect fit with the AEF strategy to provide long-term sustainable energy in sub-Sahara African countries, especial in post Ebola countries. Furthermore, it is the intention to use Dutch innovative turbine technology, suitable for rural areas and off-grid solutions.
