FMO has committed €9 million equity from two Dutch government funds - Access to Energy Fund and MASSIF - to fund, the growth of Mobisol, a leading Pay-As-You-Go solar home system provider in East Africa
Mobisol was founded in 2011 by a young entrepreneur Thomas Gottschalk in Germany; to find solutions to Africa’s electrification problem. During their journey, Mobisol discovered there is more than one way of addressing this issue.
Mobisol combines affordable solar home systems along with smart payment systems to make electricity available to the lower middle income segment. Their 80 Wp to 200 Wp systems provided amenities beyond basic lighting that result in productive electrification. Along with residential customers a lot of small and medium size enterprises have acquired a Mobisol system.
Mobisol’s state of the art solar system uses remote monitoring technology to interact with their clientele and maintain the systems. Using this innovative big data software, Mobisol aims to assess and offer add-on services to their clientele in the coming years.
