January 30, 2025

As of May 1st, 2025, Fatoumata Bouaré, FMO’s Chief Finance & Operations Officer, will continue her career at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in London. Fatou will be part of EBRD’s Executive Committee as Vice President, Chief Risk Officer. While her absence will be felt, FMO extends its warmest congratulations to Fatou on her new position. Fatou has been with FMO for over seven years. After her tenure at the Bank of Africa, she joined the Management Board in 2017 as Chief Risk and Finance Officer, transitioning to Chief Finance and Operations Officer in 2022. During these years, Fatou provided continuity in FMO’s leadership and helped guide FMO through turbulent COVID times, including its first and only loss and biggest gain ever. She leaves FMO in a strong financial position, having ensured stability across our financial, operational, and risk frameworks during significant growth. Additionally, she took essential steps to future-proof FMO’s systems and processes.

Dirk Jan van den Berg, Chair of FMO’s Supervisory Board, expressed: “We are deeply grateful to Fatou for her expertise, her thoughtful leadership, and above all, her congenial approach. As a pivotal and steadfast member of FMO’s management board for many years, she exemplified the strengths that diversity brings to teams. We wish her every success in her new and exciting role at the EBRD.’’

Fatou added: “"It has been an honor to serve on FMO's Management Board. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to contribute to the growth and transformation of this esteemed institution and for the privilege of being its first African board member. As I transition from this role, I am proud of the significant progress we have made in advancing the institution’s strategic objectives. My heartfelt thanks go to the Supervisory Board, my fellow Management Board members for their collaboration and trust, and all my colleagues at FMO for making this an incredible journey. Thank you."

Fatou's second and final term at FMO was set to conclude in October 2025; the search for her successor has already been set in motion.
