Half the world lacks access to essential health services

December 19, 2017

Though more people around the world have access to treatment for HIV, immunization, family planning and insecticide-treated nets to combat malaria, progress is uneven: half the planet’s population still lacks access to essential health services. In a report released by the World Bank and the World Health Organization, more than 800 million people spend over 10% of their household budget on health costs for themselves or a family member. For 100 million people, these costs are enough to push them into extreme poverty.
