Five years later I left to join FMO as a legal counsel and consequently became manager. After three years I wanted to broaden my horizon and move to the investment side, so I first went to FMO’s credit department then joined the Financial Institutions Africa team as an investment officer. Early 2015 I was appointed head of the Financial Institutions Latin America & the Caribbean team. In my current role I guide, facilitate and support my team in providing the best client service possible to our valued clients and partners in South and Central America while making sure our services and work fit with FMO’s strategic objectives of creating development impact in a financially sustainable manner.
I honestly never considered working for a bank, but when I accidentally bumped into FMO I realized it was exactly what I was looking for: an enjoyable and meaningful working environment. And still, nearly 8 years down the line, I am really proud that I work for FMO and that I get to contribute to making this world a better place.
What I like about my work and FMO in general is the interaction with our inspiring clients and interesting partnerships. I feel FMO empowers its employees with a good plan or an innovative idea to execute it. FMO is a diverse working environment with people of different generations, cultures, gender and backgrounds which is extremely interesting and enriching. Personal development is truly stimulated and facilitated. I think I am a good example of someone with an extraordinary career path, but I felt 100% supported all the way during my journey of making a career switch.
