To enhance our recovery and restructuring capacity, we are looking for an enthusiastic Senior Investment Officer (“SIO”) for the SO team. The candidate we look for is a strong team player with a pro-active approach. Given the uncertain and volatile environment SO is operating in combined with complex restructurings and often long throughput times, a flexible attitude and out-of-the box approach is key besides endurance. Experience with restructurings and recoveries regarding Agri, Food & Forestry clients is a pre. 

 In this role, you are further expected to: 

  • Assume the account management of your portfolio including complex and challenging clients 
  • Lead deal restructurings and recoveries/exits of non-performing clients and projects 
  • Manage relationships internally (Issue management, E&S) and externally (Partners) for high reputation risk clients 
  • Coaching/training on the job of Investment Officer(s) and (Senior) Associates 
  • Write clear and convincing documents 
  • Have good financial analytical skills and provide input on financial modelling aspects on restructurings 
  • Have strong understanding of legal aspects including insolvency and bankruptcy procedures 
  • Successfully drive recoveries while managing E&S and reputational risks 
  • Contribute to the sharing of lessons learned throughout the organization 
  • Work closely with other DFI/MLAs and other (commercial) financiers, law firms and consultants

Your team

The Special Operations (SO) team is responsible for the recovery and restructuring of non-performing assets in the FMO portfolio (both FMO-A and Government Funds) and manages distressed assets worldwide in mainly FMOs key focus sectors (Energy, Financial Institutions and Agri, Food & Forestry). The SO approach includes pro-active management and follow-up of ESG and reputational challenges related to its portfolio with distressed clients in order to safeguard the envisaged development (E&S) impact as well as reducing potential reputational issues.  

SO is a diverse and experienced team of 24 professionals, including 5 (Senior) Associates, one Management Assistant, 9 (Senior) Investment Officers, 3 Senior E&S Advisor / Officers, 4 (Senior) Issue Management Advisor / Officers and two Managers. We work closely with our colleagues from Legal but also with Credit as well as Investment colleagues in case we provide support through a SO Consultation role.  

The gross portfolio of SO is currently between EUR 400-500 mln with 65 active client files. Including i) third (syndicated) parties, ii) our (written-off) B-portfolio (10-15 clients) and iii) SO consultations (more than 25 clients), SO (in)directly has a portfolio of more than EUR 0.8 bln under management. This also stresses the importance of sharing lessons learned, including E&S and reputational, by SO within FMO. 

Your background

  • Master’s degree 
  • At least 10 years of relevant working experience of which 8+ years in restructuring 
  • Good understanding of corporate and project finance including legal documentation 
  • Strong presentation and persuasion skills 
  • Strong market sense and a creative mindset 
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal 
  • You are willing to travel frequently to various regions/countries on an irregular basis
