Update session FMO's Human Rights and Land Governance position statements

September 11, 2017

On January 4th 2017, FMO published its revised Sustainability Policy, following an extensive consultation with our stakeholder community. Over 300 comments were received and we are grateful for all contributions. In light of the number, quality and depth of these comments, we communicated earlier in 2017 that we needed to reflect more profoundly on several of the issues presented to do justice to the input received, specifically, investigating how to take them into account in our policy and processes.

Alongside these investigations, we have been focusing on a responsible exit strategy for the Aqua Zarca project. This is a top priority for FMO, including in terms of engagement with important stakeholders. To allow for this process, we anticipate to publish final versions of the position statements on Land Governance, Human Rights and Gender towards the end of the summer of 2017.

As we value your contribution before we publish our position statements on Human Rights, Land Governance and Gender, we would like to keep you informed of the investigations we have been undertaking since the beginning of the year and actions to which we are committed.

Therefore, we invite you for an update session at our office on Monday, September 11th from 12.30 - 14.30 hours. Please register by sending your name and organization to consultation@fmo.nl before Friday, September 01 2017.

With regard to the overall revision process, we would like to inform you that we first aim to conclude the process of developing new position statements, and implement and audit the policy and position statements before launching a new review process on our sustainability policy - internal or external. Having said that, it is important to note that we plan to evaluate the 2016 public consultation process in the second half of 2017 and remain open to engaging with our stakeholders on key themes.
