Capacity Development

Development finance means more than financial investment. It also means investing in the knowledge and skills to make a business work

A TAILORED PROGRAM

FMO manages what we call the ‘Capacity Development’ (CD) program. This program provides finance to a particular client with the aim of improving their management skills and technical know-how. This often includes support in improving social, environmental and governance standards.

Our organizational assessment scan is used to define the specific knowledge needs of the client, so we can tailor the approach to their requirements. The program covers fields like:

  • corporate governance
  • financial administration
  • financial planning
  • business processes

The program is managed by FMO and financed by the Dutch Ministry for Foreign Affairs - Development Cooperation.

A KEY RESOURCE FOR CLIENTS AND PARTNERS

Demand for the CD program stems from FMO’s core-business clients and potential clients. Usually, the people at FMO who know their clients best – the investment officers – identify and assess their clients’ knowledge needs. There is a designated CD team that then organizes CD projects.

Capacity Development is also open to partner organizations and officially recognized intermediaries. These are all well known to FMO and, like us, combine knowledge and financial investment to improve client performance.
