Energy

Energy from environmentally sustainable sources is essential to improving living standards. We focus on every link in the energy chain, from developing energy-efficient technologies to distributing renewable energy.

OUR LINK IN THE ENERGY CHAIN

Creating access to energy from renewable, sustainable sources is essential to improving living standards. We aim to find long-term, suitable solutions with our clients.

FMO is involved in many different energy-improvement projects. For instance: development of energy-efficient technologies; generation and distribution of energy to rural, off-grid areas; refurbishment of existing coal-fired plants to increase eco-efficiency; provision of solar-panel systems for homes in rural villages; investment in wind, hydro and other sustainable power supplies; and so on.

In all cases, we take our clients’ and their communities’ situations into account: we ask what’s needed, what’s possible, what’s available in the country or region, what’s most suitable and how we can achieve the maximum result with minimal negative environmental impact.

GREEN ENERGY POLICIES

While access to energy improves lives, minimizing environmental issues is always part of our project plans. We have specific policies in place to ensure this.

FMO adheres to IFC/World Bank performance standards relating to people, plant and profit – we also have our own policies relating to the production of biofuels from agriculture, for example. More about performance standards is available via our Governance page.
